Before a house is finished, its drains are pipes like these, and who owns each stretch depends on where it sits.

Which office handles what, by type of community

The same plumbing problem gets a different first phone call depending on where the house sits. A sewer backup is a good example. The table groups the 25 communities with their own pages by who runs the rules there.

Fairfax mailing address: inside the City or in the county?

A Fairfax mailing address can sit inside the City or in the county around it. Mantua is the clearest case, because it borders the City but belongs to the county. Falls Church mailing names do the same thing for Idylwood, West Falls Church and Baileys Crossroads.

Fairfax Station, ZIP 22039, is a county mailing name and is not part of the City of Fairfax.

That is why this site reads the ZIP code as a clue and not an answer. Tell the dispatcher the street address and the nearest cross street, and the rest follows. The pages on plumbing trouble that is spreading and fixing a failed sewer line explain what to say once you are connected.

Questions people ask before they call

  • Is my house inside the City or in the county? Look for the water and sewer bills, and ask your plumber which permit office applies.
  • My ZIP is on the list, so am I covered? Call and the dispatcher confirms your address.
  • My community has no page. Call with your address and the dispatcher will confirm it. The pages are a guide to local rules, and the ZIP list above is what we cover.

Prices depend on access and permits, and how prices vary explains how quotes are built. For short answers, see common plumbing questions, or look through every plumbing service to find the right repair.
